Mother's Day in the Bleachers

Showing up for my kids—and for myself

This year, Mother’s Day looked a little different.

There were no fancy brunches, no spa days, no quiet mornings with coffee in bed.

Instead, I spent the day at the baseball diamond, watching my oldest play a double header—two hours away from home.

It was a full-on “mom mode” kind of day. Cheering from the sidelines, packing snacks, navigating sibling dynamics, and keeping the younger ones entertained between innings. If you're a mom, you know the drill. It was loud, dusty, chaotic at times… and also exactly where I needed to be.

But here’s the thing: while I was showing up for my boys, I made sure to show up for me, too.

Mother’s Day is about celebrating moms, and I’m one of them. I’ve learned that even when I’m in the thick of mothering—especially then—I need to keep a little space carved out for myself. I didn’t need a whole day away. I just needed a moment to honour the woman I am within the motherhood. To notice how far I’ve come. To remember that I matter, too.

Sometimes, that space looks like five quiet minutes with my coffee in the morning. Sometimes, it looks like snapping a picture of my son mid-swing, heart full. Sometimes, it’s simply whispering to myself: You’re doing a good job.

Mother’s Day isn’t about getting it perfect. It’s about presence. And this year, I felt that—both for my kids, and for myself.

If you're a mom reading this, I hope you found a moment to celebrate you, too. Whether you were at the ball diamond, working a shift, catching up on laundry, or finally resting—I see you.

You’re doing a good job, too.

With love,
Linda
